Jarrod Kyle scored twice as Gold Coast City beat Northern Fury 2-0 at Townsville Sports Reserve on Saturday night, Fury's first loss at home for the season.
Kyle doubled his season tally with a second-half double, after the two teams were unable to conjure a goal in the game's opening hour in an even contest.
The win is Gold Coast's fifth in six outings with their only loss so far in round 1. Gold Coast City now move to the top of the table, although Brisbane Olympic has a game in hand.
The result sees Northern Fury's winning streak come to an end after three games, but the hosts had their chances and kept things close throughout.
Gold Coast City face Brisbane Roar Youth while Northern Fury travels to Brisbane to meet Brisbane Strikers when the competition resumes on 22nd April after the Easter break.
Northern Fury's next home game is on Saturday 29th April against Brisbane Roar Youth.
Some members of the squad chose to wear #RainbowLaces as part of the national Rainbow Round of Sport which aims to highlight issues of prejudice towards LGBTI people in sport.
Other teams participating include Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers, Perth Glory, the entire Women's NPL Victoria competition with ambassadors Alex Wilkinson, Rostyn Griffiths and Matildas Kyah Simon and Michelle Heyman. Locally, North Queensland Cowboys and Johnathan Thurston also wore #RainbowLaces.
